The South Londonderry Township Police Department welcomes their newest member to the force. Say hello to K9 Freyja! Freyja (the “J” is silent) is a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois / German Shepherd mix from the Netherlands. The name Freyja means “Noble Lady” in Old Norse. Freyja is also the name of a Norse goddess.
Freyja and her handler, Ofc. Nick Ague, will attend an upcoming K9 Academy class at Iron Rose K9, where they will become a certified dual-purpose Police K9 Unit. We would like to thank the residents and businesses from both inside and outside our community for their continuing support of our K9 program and department! Thank you! Welcome K9 Freyja!
it's official!
On Monday, June 19, 2023, Nick and Freyja completed K-9 training at Iron Rose K9 in Boiling Springs, PA. This was an intensive 5 week program to complete their training and certification. Over the 5 weeks, Nick ended up losing more than 10 pounds (And he wasn't overweight to begin with). Freyja also dropped some weight due to the exhaustive schedule, sometimes putting in over 12 hours a day. They're now both ready to be out on patrol. Freyja has been certified for patrol, narcotics, and tracking, and is ready to pick up where Rex left off. The presence of a K-9 was missed over the past six months and Officers are excited to have Freyja ready for duty. Our Department is pleased to offer this service to our community as it has been proven invaluable over time. A big "THANK YOU" to the residents, businesses, and individuals who have supported this program and made it possible.
